Sarah’s Choice - A Godbeat Review And Interview
Sarah Collins is a young woman, like so many, in the move in her career.. Working in a middle management position at a major advertising agency, Sarah is very much on the move, being offered a promotion that will change her life financially. One thing stands in her way of everything she had worked for and dreamed of, her unborn child.
Sarah’s Choice is about her choice to choose between her growing career and her child. The world around her pushing her to choose what is best for her, her career and the lifestyle it will bring her. But
according to a mysterious stranger, and three visions, Sarah can make a choice that will not only change her life but the lives of her loved ones both now and forever.
This film staring Rebecca St James is a fresh look at a matter effecting, women day in, day out. Many women are put into situations where they have to choose between having their child or face ending their growing careers. This battle is played out in Sarah’s Choice, with Rebecca St James playing Sarah.
Rebecca played the roll of Sarah in a masterful way. Clearly, Rebecca’s heart is with the unborn, yet her roll forced her play against her own personal convictions, not an easy task at all.
Sarah’s Choice, also staring Andrea Logan White and Dick Van Patten is extremely well done, not your typical Christian film that have seemed at times, low budget and a bit over the top. Sarah’s Choice is a high quality film in every way. Great story, wonderful setting and highly professional acting really raises the bar on Christian films. It was a pleasure to watch on every level.
Rebecca, an Australian born artist made her debut album release in 1994 at the age of six. Since the Grammy winning Rebecca has been at the top of her game in sharing Christ to the world through song. Now, a new career in film is blossoming.
We were able to sit down with Rebecca and talk about her love of film and Sarah’s Choice.
Godbeat: Rebecca, you have been in the Christian Music business for over 15 years. What was the transition like from music to film?
Rebecca: “It’s been a journey of several years really. I took some time off from the road giving me some time to think and pray about change in my life. During that time I really found a passion for film. I just really wanted to take steps in that direction even though the thought was a bit scary. Sometimes God takes us down paths that are personally risky and this was very much a personal risk. It’s just been a great and exciting journey that I am so excited to be a part of. Keeping it fresh as an artist is so important so I like to keep a lot of irons in the fire”.
Godbeat: What was it about Sarah’s Choice that she found intriguing?
Rebecca: “My heart is already ignited in the pro-life movement. I’ve been involved in a crisis pregnancy center in LA and have seen a real need for music and art to really reflect my views and views that need to be shared. The theme of salvation and redemption is awesome“.
Godbeat: So tell us about the audition process?
Rebecca: “One of the scariest things I have ever done in my life. I had auditioned for Sister Act when I was 15, but this was very scary. There is just something about the process that is unnerving I remember being on the Mall in Washington CD with a half a million people watching me, this was more nerve racking then that”.
Godbeat: There are some very emotional scenes in Sarah’s Choice. What was the biggest challenge while filming?
Rebecca: “Its really personally amazing when you are that emotional when acting…. its so part of it. If you feel it, you are doing it right. The crying scene was the most intense and the most intimidating for me. The first two times we shot that scene there was no emotion at all, but the third time, I just prayed that God would help draw the emotion. It was a total God thing”.
Godbeat: What message do you hope people take away after watching the movie?
Rebecca: “That while God was pursuing Sarah’s, with His love and redemption, they will feel God pursing them”.
