One has to love watching the whole studio process. To see how all the elements of a tune come together, forming a high quality product just amazes me. Seeing talents merge in performance has always griped and inspired me. Today’s studio visit was no exception. I was given the distinct pleasure of sitting in on Jason Eaton’s session. Jason is one of the newest Christian artist making waves here in Nashville and well, around the world. He was very excited to hear that this week, his is making the charts in Europe. Exciting stuff for this new, up and coming artist. Between takes I was able to throw a few questions Jason’s way.
So here they are:
Godbeat: So, Jason, are you excited about all the new attention?
Jason: The word “surreal” come to mind. Driving down the road one day, I was listening to the radio. There was a Chris Tomlin, then a Jeremy Camp tune of which I am a huge fan of both. Then, of all people, I heard ME! I was amazed to even be on the radio, let alone follow those guys. Talk about humbling! I knew at point, something must me up.
Godbeat: So I hear you have three boys?
Jason: I do, three boys! They are my pride and joy.
Godbeat: That’s awesome! What are your boy’s names?
Jason: Grayson, Jayden & Brayden.
Godbeat: Are they excited about all that is happening to you?
Jason: My middle boy, Jayden, recently ask me if I was a “rock star” yet. I got a kick out of that for sure. I just told him, well, when I am on tour, we will know soon I guess. Made me laugh.
Godbeat: Are you going to be doing any touring here soon?
Jason: Actually yes, I have several of outdoor events scheduled for this summer. Even a Republican convention has asked me to come perform at an event they are holding. They ask me to sing a few patriotic songs which are well, fine, but not my first love. My patriotism is with Christ. However, they are going to let me sing my single so I’m stoked about that. The events I am doing allow me to minister. Its great to sing to the saints, but my calling is to sing to the lost.
Godbeat: So tell us about Europe?
Jason: Scott, my producer sent me a link to the chart about a week ago. We had no idea it would get picked up over there. He was looking at another artist he is producing, scrolled down and found that I had charted as well. It’s great. It is so exciting to see what God is doing and how He is opening doors I would have never thought possible.
Godbeat: Are you considered more praise and worship or a rock/pop feel t ap your music?
Jason: Much more of a pop vibe for certain. However, they do have some serious worship potential for churches and others that want to use them for a worship service.
Godbeat: When did you know you wanted to sing?
Jason: Jr .High… 12 years old or so. But, I’d have to say that it really became a focus through my High School years.. Choir at school become a big part of my life. My senior year was the point I decided I wanted music as my career. I got my degree in Music from Olivet Nazarene University and have been working toward that goal ever since.
Godbeat: Was it a calling for you?
Jason: Totally! Some might think am coming in a little late in the game being in my 30’s, but it’s been Gods timing all along. It’s Gods work, not mine.
Godbeat: How do you like recording down here in Nashville?
Jason: Man, the people are great. At this level, everyone involved is just so humble. It that type of work environment, God can really work. It’s not about us after all and all about Him!
Thanks a ton for sitting down with us Jason! We are so very excited for you and can not wait to see where God is going to take your career. What an amazing talent God has given you. It was our great pleasure to be able to sit with you while you shared a bit of your story with us and our Godbeat.com readers.
